Speaker by Anechoic

Mic in. Your chain. Your apps out.

Your plugin chain. Your microphone. Across your Windows apps.

Keep the vocal chain you built. Speaker runs your own VST plugins on your Windows microphone, so compatible calling, streaming and gaming apps can use the processed voice without a virtual audio cable.

How it works

One microphone. Your sound, in more places.

Speaker adds an effect to the Windows microphone audio path. Apps using that shared-mode path receive your processed microphone. They keep selecting your real mic; exclusive-mode and ASIO paths bypass the effect.

  1. Connect your microphone

Install Speaker and enable the capture devices you want to process. Currently available in private testing.

  2. Build your chain

Add your VST3 plugins to the chain and put them in the order you want.

  3. Listen, then go live

Check your dry and processed sound first. Test your apps and plugins before relying on a release candidate during a live session.

The signal pathOne chain, built once

Your plugins make the sound. Speaker hosts the effects you choose. It does not bundle a ready-made vocal chain.

Bring your own plugins. The current Windows build hosts 64-bit VST3 and legacy VST2 plugins. No plugins included; no AU or CLAP support.

Exclusive mode and ASIO get the dry mic. Apps that take the mic all to themselves (exclusive mode) or through an ASIO driver (a separate kind of audio driver) skip Windows’ audio effects, so they hear your mic unprocessed.

Plugin chain

One chain for everything, built once.

A plugin chain is your plugins, run one after another. Each microphone Speaker processes has its own chain, and you can add more microphones in Speaker’s Devices list.

Presets

A setup for every mood.

A preset is a saved setup. Save a whole chain, or one plugin’s settings, and load it again later. A talking setup, a hype setup, a late-night setup.

Added-latency readout

Know the number.

See the delay reported by active plugins, plus Speaker’s hand-off figure. These are not acoustic end-to-end measurements: Windows audio buffers, hardware and monitoring also contribute.

Listen

Check it before you go live.

Hear yourself dry or after your plugins, with monitoring volume and mute separate from microphone input level. Route interface sounds to their own output, independently of monitoring.

Control on stream

Hands on the chain while you play.

MIDI control

Switch voices without leaving your game.

A MIDI controller is a box of buttons and knobs you connect to your PC. Map a button or knob to load a preset, step through presets, or toggle bypass. With Learn, you press the button and Speaker picks it up.

Mute

One button.

A mute button for the microphone.

Disable Speaker

Hand the mic over for a moment.

One switch makes Speaker let go of its own hold on the microphone, its monitoring and its MIDI inputs. Your chain keeps processing the mic for other apps, so you don’t lose your sound everywhere else.

Always pick up Off by default

Live even when no app is listening.

Speaker can keep enabled, available added microphones active together, even when no other app is listening. RC23 keeps each input’s pickup independent; switching the selected mic does not close the others.

Set and forget

Set it once, then get on with the stream.

Volume lock

Lock the mic at 54%. Discord moves it. Speaker puts it back.

Click the padlock and Speaker holds your microphone’s Windows input level where you set it. When one of these moves the level, Speaker puts it back:

DiscordZoomChromeThe taskbarWindows Sound settings

Change the level with Speaker’s own slider and the lock moves with it. Each microphone keeps its own saved target, and Speaker restores that target when another app changes it.

Input-level restoration · development test

0.23msmedian

0.23 ms ÷ 10 ms = 2.3% of one audio block

One development setup, September 16, 2026: typical measured restoration was 0.18–0.30 ms (median 0.23 ms), with a busy-window outlier near 15 ms. Not an audio-latency measurement or a guarantee for other PCs. Bar comparison uses a 10 ms block; minimum visible bar width is 2 px.

Tray app

Ready when you sign in.

Optional Windows startup and close-to-tray keep Speaker accessible. Pin its window above your other apps when you want your controls in view.

Diagnostics

Uninstall

Checks your settings on the way out.

Uninstall from Windows Settings. It removes Speaker’s microphone effect and checks that your audio settings are back the way they were.

Made for streaming

Three moments on stream.

Scene · Discord call

The level stops drifting.

Set your mic to 54% and click the padlock. If a calling app changes the Windows input level, Speaker restores your chosen target. Adjust that target in Speaker whenever you need to.

Scene · Mid-game

Talking to hype, one button.

Map a MIDI button to your talking preset and another to a more animated vocal chain. Switch without leaving the game; compatible apps follow the processed microphone.

Scene · Second monitor

The background talks back.

Speaker’s window sits on your second monitor. You talk, and the cubes of the Anechoic background rise and light up with your voice. The cyan tint tells you your chain is processing.

A background that reacts to your voice

Seven styles, and the wave can be any colour you pick. Light and dark themes too.

  • Anechoic default
  • Classic
  • Ember Field
  • Radial Bloom
  • Phosphor Trace
  • Aurora Curtains
  • Ridgeline Horizon

What the tint tells you

  • Cyan: Speaker is processing.
  • Amber: pass-through, your voice goes through unprocessed.
  • Red: a fault.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Which apps does it work in?

Speaker targets apps using the Windows shared-mode microphone path with audio effects enabled. App settings, drivers and enhancement support can affect compatibility. Exclusive-mode and ASIO capture bypass Windows’ effects and receive the dry mic. Test your own setup before a live session.

Which plugins?

The current Windows build hosts 64-bit VST3 and legacy VST2 plugins. There is no AU or CLAP support, and no plugins are included. Individual plugin compatibility still needs testing; Speaker is not a guarantee that every third-party effect will work.

Is there a Mac version?

No. Speaker is for Windows 11, 64-bit only. No Mac, no Linux, no older Windows.

Does it add latency?

Yes. Total delay depends on Windows audio buffers, device drivers, hardware, your plugins and whether you monitor the result. The plugin-latency readout and capture-period measurements are not end-to-end latency. There is no zero-latency claim.

Why might Windows warn about the installer?

The RC23 installer is not code-signed, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Public downloads are not open yet. Only use an installer obtained from a verified Anechoic source; do not disable antivirus protection to install or use it.

How do I remove it?

Uninstall it from Windows Settings. It removes Speaker’s microphone effect and checks that your audio settings are back the way they were.
